Carbon emissions reduction from pulp and paper wastewater treatment plants using advanced control techniques
A collaborative project supported financially by European and Greek national funds through Bilateral and Multi- lateral Scientific and Technological Cooperation Greece – China (project code: T7ΔΚΙ-00426)
GREENPAPER Partners
GREENPAPER – Main Achievements – Partner contributions
- Development of an accurate and reliable model for WasteWater Treatment Plants (WWTP) in Pulp and Paper Industry with main emphasis on the prediction of the effluent stream quality and the GreenHouse Gas (GHG) emissions. (Partners involved: SCUT and AUTH)
- Development of an advanced control strategy (optimisation-based model predictive control system) for the satisfaction of the quality specifications on the WWTP effluent stream and the minimisation of the GHG emissions. Emphasis is given on the use of industrial control hardware for the emulation of the integrated control system. (Partners involved: AUTH, ASHellas, SCUT)
- Development of a controller performance assessment tool for online implementation in WWTP in pulp and paper industries. Emphasis is given on the alleviation of the effect of stochastic disturbances on the system and comparison of the achieved controller performance to that of an ideal nonlinear minimum variance controller. (Partners involved: AUTH and SCUT)
- Development of a tool for fault monitoring and diagnosis in WWTP using statistical methods and techniques. Emphasis is given on the ability of the methods to detect the occurring fault and identify its source. (Partners involved: SCUT and AUTH)
- Development of an integrated control system encompassing the advanced controller with the industrial control hardware and the associated digital twin of the plant. In addition, the controller assessment and the fault detection and diagnosis tools are useful options. (Partners involved: AUTH, ASHellas, SCUT)
